Æfiran Currency

The currency of Æfira is the æan (æ.), divided into 100 pence (p., singular penny). This currency was established by the Currency Act 2008, and a small number of æan notes were issued in 2008–9, but no coins or banknotes are currently in circulation. Instead, transactions in Æfiran money are made electronically through the Bank of Æfira.

The name æan alludes both to the country’s name and to the Latin word for bronze (æs), a metal widely used for coinage since antiquity.

The æan’s value is fixed with respect to the International Monetary Fund’s special drawing rights: one S.D.R. is worth 1.6 Æfiran pence. Exchange rates with other nations’ currencies are calculated on the basis of this value. As of 2 December 2024, one æan is equal to 82.17 United States dollars, 78.21 euros, 64.65 pounds sterling, 12 341 Japanese yen, 597.3 yuan renminbi or 6 958 Indian rupees.
